Designer VACA

In early October I hoped on a plane at 5:30am and flew to Palm Springs for Designer VACA.

Which is an informal gathering for female graphic and web designers held at the Ace Hotel.

It was my first year attending and I was both excited and nervous about going because I didn't know anyone there. I booked my own room so I could recharge my energy which is what I tend to need at these types of social conferences.

The rooms are great; soft sheets, nice big shower, cool bathrobe, whole bottles of booze and snacks you can buy (but they're crazy expensive). As you can see I made myself right at home.

The first person I made friends with was Jessica,  it was her first time too. She's a designer and photographer with cool pink hair and we sat most of the first day chatting and talking shop in this bar at the Ace. We've kept in touch and usually see each other once a year at other gatherings like Being Boss.

Throughout the weekend I met many cool ladies; developers, designers, photographers, illustrators, bloggers the list goes on and on. Who were all there for one purpose: to get their chill on. Standing in line for dinner I had a cool chat with Jessica Hische and I was surprised by how down to earth she was because she's kinda a big deal YO! She designed the film titles for Moonrise Kingdom as well as a million other cool things.

I had just gotten back from Circles Conference so my head was still spinning. But it was great to be able to sit pool-side and get some relax on.

Overall I was impressed with the relaxed vibe and I didn't feel out of place at all.

My only wish was that there had been more speakers during the classes. Hopefully that will happen next time!
